Today, Artplace America announced that SPACES is one of 70 finalists, out of over 1000 applicants, for their community development and creative placemaking award.
SPACES’ proposal is built on the ideas and relationships developed during previous residencies. The Civic Power Studio is a community designed creatorspace for teaching and learning power, by exercising it. Residents, artists, and law enforcement collaborate to design and implement public safety strategies rooted in care rather than control, challenging ineffective systems through organizing, collective efficacy, and trust building.
We are honored to be finalists, but most of all, excited to be working alongside our community to create such compelling ideas and build our working capacity. Awardees will be announced in January 2018.
